Bringing Belfast’s Past to Life – One Sign at a Time

Hello, I’m Geraldine Davison-Gray, the founder and guide behind BSL Belfast Tours. I established this business to empower deaf individuals with the confidence and opportunity to engage with Belfast’s rich history in a manner that genuinely includes them.

Born in Belfast, I spent over 40 years living in England. During that time, I experienced both the beauty of historical storytelling and the numerous barriers that deaf people encounter when trying to access it. Upon returning to Northern Ireland, I noticed a clear gap in inclusive, accessible tourism, which prompted me to take action.

I hold a Level 2 Northern Ireland Tour Guide qualification with OCN and am a registered member of Tour Guides NI, which provides full insurance and upholds professional standards for all guides. I specialise in British Sign Language (BSL) guided walking tours, currently focusing on the Titanic Quarter, with plans to expand into Clifton House and Hillsborough Castle.

Why I Do This

Deaf individuals in Northern Ireland are often excluded from mainstream cultural and tourism experiences. Many lack the confidence to attend traditional tours that do not accommodate their communication needs. My mission is to change that by offering tours where BSL is not an afterthought – it is the foundation.

Every tour I lead is meticulously researched and crafted. I collaborate with deaf professionals to develop scripts in a visually-friendly, story-driven format that ensures information is presented clearly and engagingly in BSL.

Community First, Always

These tours are more than mere walks through history – they focus on fostering community, enhancing access, and ensuring the deaf community can engage with our shared heritage with pride and understanding.

I currently run one tour each month, accommodating up to 15 people per tour. Most of my bookings to date have been generated through word of mouth within the deaf community, and demand is on the rise.

If you’re deaf, hard of hearing, or simply passionate about inclusive experiences, I’d love to welcome you to one of my tours. Let’s explore Belfast’s past together, in sign.
